I’m sitting here on a rainy Monday morning, wondering if cleaning my kitchen will help me work through a small case of writer’s block but the allure of Twitter is pulling me away from both my kitchen and the press release I’m in the middle of writing.
Then one of the women I follow on Twitter announced that she was included in this list: 50 Most Influential Powerful Women in Social Media. Wow. What an honor!
I read through the list and was delighted to see a few names I recognized, ladies I’ve chatted with and didn’t realize that they were Somebody, and also a bit disappointed to not see a few other names.
And then the thought occurred to me. I’d like to be on a list like that…but how?
One word came to mind: FOCUS
I have a few too many several different projects going on and its beginning to feel a little overwhelming. The problem with that is that when I feel overwhelmed, I tend to shut down. I end up feeling like a pack mule. Load too much stuff on my back and I’m going to just plop down unable to move.
So its time to get rid of some of the extra weight. In order for me to do that, I have to prioritize. I have to figure out what it is I really enjoy doing and which projects spark a feeling of dread inside me. Once I decide which projects are the most important to me, I can put more of my time and energy into those.
Sounds pretty easy, right? Not quite.
I have a lot of questions to ask myself as part of this process. What do I want to be known for? What topic or subject do I want people to be talking about that makes them think of me? What kinds of opportunities do I want to draw into my life?
I’ve been reading a lot lately about the law of attraction. I’ve had the opportunity to review two books on the subject (which I’m still reading) - The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Law of Attraction and The Vision Board: The Secret to an Extraordinary Life
- and I’m beginning to incorporate some of these principles into my lie and my work. But before I go any further, I need to regroup and decide who do I want to be.
What about you? Have you ever had to shift your focus? Did you end up doing something completely different than what you set out to do?
Let me hear your thoughts!

I recently shifted my career focus. I decided after 10 years in the workforce that I want to be a Work at Home Mom. So, I’m starting my own business that will allow me to work at home. What a huge adjustment it’s been; I find it more difficult to stay focused during the course of the day, with all the distractions of home. But it’s definitely been worth it to be able to be here with my son.
Boy do I know that Pack Mule system! I’ve gotten a lot better but still feel like I need more hours in the day.
I do internet research for a living and started a blog to help technophobes learn how to research wrong move, research overload!
My passion is helping others succeed through proper mindset, so I decided to start focusing on there. Goal is to finish my book and then start speaking. It took lots of Soul searching to admit it though!

Its always great to hear from you! I saw the notice sent out the other day about your book signing at the charity auction for JDRF. As a mother of a child with Juvenile Diabetes and a supporter of JDRF myself, thank you!
